Greetings. I am Alice, the human behind Acting with Alice. I have been involved with acting all my life (in fact my grandparents were on the Vaudeville circuit and my Mother is experienced in stage and film acting).
I am trained in Stanislavski, Adler, Hagan, and Spolin acting techniques and influenced by the Clurman directing style. I have been active as an actor, acting coach, and theatre teacher in and artistic and technical director for professional, community, and educational theatre for over 25 years. I received my Bachelors in Theatre Arts, with a focus in acting and directing, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Raised in Oregon, I originally attended SOSC on a track scholarship, then transferred to OSU for my BA in Theatre Arts and Speech Communication, transferring to the Master of Arts in Teaching program at OSU for my graduate degree in Language Arts. I have played many roles in my life. In college I was in ROTC; a Phi Kappa Phi member; my one-act play, Everafter, was nominated for an Oregon Book Award; I was a Kenpo Karate teacher; was a member of an acting troupe; and became an avid rock climber. My educational career path has included directorships of technical/artistic theatre programs; and consultants for school theatre programs in private and public schools in Oregon and Hawaii in addition to other varied excursions into community, educational, and professional theatre. Notably, I developed a public school’s acting and technical theatre program from scratch that was 97-students strong in five years.
All the world’s a stage and life is highlighted by peak performances, mine include: the birth of my two children, marrying the love of my life, saving a child from drowning, winning the Oregon State 100 meter dash in 1981 (record still stands) rescuing my 3 year old son from Albanian kidnappers in Greece, and those glorious ah ha teaching moments.
